Wheels & Tracks No.27

The Bren Carrier which survived until at least 1979 when Major Southby-Tailyour, Royal Marines, photographed it in Moody Brook Camp, three miles west of Port Stanley (see main text). Major Southby-Tailyour, in charge of the Marine detachment during 1978-79 and privately a keen hydrographer, covered some 6000 miles in small boats round the islands and his very detailed charts were the basis for a book manuscript which, after rejection by 15 publishers, was immediately classified when in 1982 the Argentinians invaded. He played a prominent part in the Task Force, receiving an OBE for leading the troops ashore at San Carlos.
