Bf 109 Late Versions Camouflage & Markings

In December 1943, General Dwight D. 'Ike' Eisenhower took over command of Allied forces in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and, in February 1944, he was officially promoted as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces intended for the invasion of the European continent late that spring. Eisenhower, as well as the US high command in Washington, were not fully content with the results of the USAAF's strategic offensive in Europe. The freshly promoted Supreme Commander justifiably believed that the essential condition for a successful invasion of France was absolute air superiority, and the operational methods of American air forces in Europe gave no guarantee that this objective would be achieved in time. So far, raids aimed at destroying Germany's ability and will to continue the war had had little effect; it became necessary to change priorities and remove the so-called 'bomber generals' from command.
