Welcome to the second issue of Cleared HOT. Judging by the responses we received from Issue 1 we are flying on the right path and we certainly appreciate the feedback and input. Making the mag a dedicated digital publication has proven to be the right choice as it has allowed us to get the magazine into your hands within hours of it being placed online. For those in places where a hard copy could takes weeks to arrive - such as Afghanistan or Iraq -the digital format has been of most benefit, as a large amount of people these days have access to a laptop or ipad. We have another great issue for you where Frank Colucci takes an indepth look at the CH53K which will become the future backbone of the USMC and Naval heavy lift helo ops. It was genuinely impressive to watch a 53 inflight and the new upgraded version should ensure that sight continues well into the future. Alex Mladenov gives us a great double header in this issue. First off he continues with Part II of the Deadly Lessons the Russians learnt during their time in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1989. His second feature gives readers an insight into the electronic countermeasure operation role in the Eastern Bloc militaries. Some very eye opening observations in this story, and one not to be missed.
