The 1955 British Nationals, held for the third year running at R.A.F. Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, proved an unqualified success, and, enjoyed two days of near perfect weather. Although the first day provided perhaps too much wind for full appreciation of the contests, Whit Monday was ideal for all types of model, and a great time was had by all. Attendance was undoubtedly afïecced to a small degree by the rail strike, which nevertheless did not deter a very large number of enthusiasts from making their way to this popular Nats, site and chancing their luck on return arrangements. When the Editorial car left the following morning, many parties were cheerily plodding along in the hope of hitching it back to such widely separated places as Leeds, Wolverhampton and Hath! A handful of officials coped well with the multitudinous requirements of the complicated programme, and such grumbles as were heard are traceable to the unco-operative attitude of those who stood to gain most from the proceedings, namely the competitors. It stands to reason that one man in charge of a contest cannot handle Might cards, record, and conduct the event reasonably as well as work a stop-watch—yet that seems to be the requirement of a certain vociferous coterie of hot contest fliers.
